U3A University of The Third Age

The Third Age Trust is the national representative body for the Universities of Third Age (U3As) in the UK.  U3As are self-help, self-managed lifelong learning co-operatives for older people no longer in full time work, providing opportunities for their members to share learning experiences in a wide range of interest groups and to pursue learning not for qualifications, but for fun.

For example, Dundee branch have just over 240 members and offer approximately 20 classes which are run by voluntary Group Leaders. They have quite a range of subjects on offer, but like many other U3As we are always looking for people who would be willing to give up some of their free time to share their expertise and experience in any other activity.

We are very fortunate in Dundee in that we are given free accommodation in Community Centres around Dundee by the City Council for our classes. We also have free use of part of Coldside Library for our Socials which normally take place on the third Tuesday afternoon of the month. Our working year runs through from September to June.
